TNB METER APPLICATION – APPROVAL FIRST, PAYMENT LATER

NEM Meter – The Net Energy Metering (NEM) and P2P meter applications mentioned above are channels for generating income by selling excess energy to TNB, so you do not need to install expensive energy storage batteries. Once the meter installation work is completed, an application can be made to convert the meter to a Solar meter that is able to export and import electricity, and sell the generated electricity back to TNB.

🔹 NEM Meter Application Fees

• TNB only charges a stamp duty of RM 10 after all documents are complete and the application is approved. The conversion to an export–import meter will be carried out after payment is made.

1. Access the Form.
2. The form is divided into mandatory and optional fields. Ensure all required fields (marked with *) are filled out to avoid submission errors.
3. Scroll Down to File Attachment for Application. Upload the pdf document not more than 5MB.
4. After verifying all fields and documents, click the Next button at the bottom of the form.

The Net Energy Metering (NEM) Scheme application in Malaysia is a process for electricity consumers (residential, commercial, or industrial) who wish to sell excess electricity generated from a solar PV system back to the TNB grid.

Below is a brief guide on NEM:

🔹 What is the NEM Scheme?

• A scheme regulated by SEDA Malaysia (Sustainable Energy Development Authority).

• Consumers who install a solar PV system can use the electricity for their own consumption, and any excess energy will be exported to the TNB grid and offset against the monthly electricity bill.

• This method is known as “one-to-one offset”
  (1 kWh exported = 1 kWh imported).

🔹 Types of NEM

• NEM Rakyat → For residential (domestic) users.

• NEM GoMEn → For government buildings.

• NEM NOVA → For commercial & industrial users.

🔹 NEM Meter Application Process

1. Registration & Application
   The application is submitted through the NEM Online system on the SEDA Malaysia portal.

   Submit supporting documents: a copy of the TNB bill, site location plan, PV system design, and contractor details.

2. SEDA Approval
   SEDA will review the application and issue NEM quota approval.

3. TNB Meter Application
   After SEDA approval, the solar contractor (RE/EPCC) will submit an application to TNB for the installation or conversion to an NEM meter (bi-directional meter).

   This meter is able to record import and export of electricity.

4. Solar PV System Installation
   The solar contractor will install the system according to the technical specifications.

5. Testing & Commissioning
   TNB and SEDA will conduct testing before the system is connected to the grid.

6. Activation & Credit Generation
   Once activated, excess electricity exported to the grid will be recorded and offset against the monthly electricity bill.
