   If poles are required, the process will usually take longer.

5. How is the electricity application process?

1. How much is the fee to apply for a TNB electricity meter?

   The cost of applying for a TNB electricity meter depends on the type of house, type of application, whether it is 1-phase or 3-phase, and the type of connection (overhead or underground).

10. Can you apply for two TNB meters for one house?

    No. TNB does not allow two meters for a single house.
    There must be a separate entrance/door to apply for a new meter.
    If it is under the same roof, it is still acceptable as long as there are separate units/entrances.

8. I want to apply for new meters for a house with more than 2 units (rental house or housing project). Is it possible?

   Yes, it is possible. For applications involving more than 2 units, you are required to submit a Group Application. The pricing is the same as a new application, but the process is usually slightly slower.

   A Group Supply application is a collective application. If a property has more than one unit, a group application is required—such as multi-unit rental houses, housing projects, or residential estates. The price is the same as a new application, but the cost may be broken down per unit. This helps TNB with planning work such as cable sizing, cable routing, and pole placement.

9. How is the process to upgrade a meter from Single Phase to 3 Phase?

• Upgrade the DB from Single Phase to 3 Phase (including related wiring and meter board, according to TNB specifications).

• Appoint a registered Electrical Contractor under the Energy Commission (ST) to submit the TNB meter upgrade application.

11. I bought a house from a developer. How do I get the electricity meter installed?

    For housing development units, you should first check with the developer. This is because the connection charges have usually already been paid by the developer, and you only need to pay the deposit to activate the meter.

    Housing project files are normally handled and kept by the developer, so there is no need to pay the connection charges twice, as that would be unnecessary.

    You only need to pay the deposit for meter installation.

12. I want to apply for a TNB meter under my name, but the land title is under someone else’s name. Is it possible?

    Yes, it is possible.

    You will need to provide the land owner’s IC and a letter of authorization/consent, if available.
    If you apply through Bani Venture, we can provide a sample authorization letter.

    Alternatively, you may submit a Sale & Purchase Agreement or Tenancy Agreement, which must be stamped by LHDN.

13. Can I apply for electricity supply even if the house is not fully completed? Can I apply for the meter early?

    The house must be at least 80% completed, with wiring completed, and the DB and meter board installed according to the required specifications and accessories.

    If the electricity is needed for construction purposes, you must apply for a temporary meter. .

14. Who will install the meter, the contractor or TNB?

    TNB will install the meter.
    The contractor only manages and handles the application process.

15. Can I apply for a TNB electricity meter directly with TNB without using a contractor?

    If it is a new house or a house that has been vacant for more than 5 years, the application must go through a contractor.
    If not, you may apply online under an existing application or walk in directly to TNB.

16. Is a land title required to install an electricity meter?

    Yes, it is very important. TNB will review every application document before approving it. You may submit a land title / agreement / S&P / letter from the government, or any document that can be used as proof of ownership.

18. How can you know if the contractor has submitted the meter application?

    If the contractor has submitted the application using the applicant’s email, TNB will send an email notification to the applicant.
    If no email is received, it means no notification has been sent by TNB.

19. If the meter is not installed within the stated period, what should be done?

    You should refer back to the contractor or call the TNB Careline at 1300-88-5454 to check the status and make a report.

    Usually, delays may occur due to issues such as no pole stock, unsuitable weather conditions, rectification works required, low-voltage areas, and various other technical reasons.

20. Is the billing rate the same for 1-phase and 3-phase?

    For domestic (residential) customers, the TNB billing rate is the same for 1-phase and 3-phase.

    For business / commercial premises, the billing rates are different from residential tariffs.

20. Are TNB meter charges the same throughout Malaysia?

    TNB charges in Peninsular Malaysia are the same nationwide.
    However, Sabah and Sarawak have different charges.

    The differences mainly depend on:

    • Type of premises

    • 1-phase or 3-phase supply

    • Type of connection (overhead or underground)

21. What if the meter application is unsuccessful?

    TNB will do its best to provide electricity supply to everyone. However, if the area is classified as a low-voltage area, it cannot be avoided until the area is upgraded or improved.
