TNB Meter Applications are divided into two categories:

• Domestic (residential)

• Commercial (business)

TNB Meter Supply is divided into two types:
1 PHASE (230V)
3 PHASE (400V)

Description of TNB Meter Application Types

You need to understand first. There are many categories for meter applications, so make sure your application is submitted under the correct category.

1. For existing meter applications, this refers to premises that still have the black TNB cable and previously had a meter installed. For this type of application, CSP payment is not required, and it does not need to go through a contractor if the house has not been left vacant for more than 5 years. You may follow this method –

2. New meter applications for houses or premises are mandatory and must be processed through a contractor. Connection charges are required, along with a deposit and stamp duty. Contractor charges will also apply if contractor services are used.

3. You are advised to upgrade from single-phase supply to three-phase supply when your household electrical load exceeds 10 kW or 50 A. Generally, if you have three (3) or more air conditioners in your home, you should upgrade to a 3-phase supply as it improves the stability and reliability of the electricity supply.

4. An application for construction purposes or for premises that are not permanent in nature. It is commonly used for the construction of a project.

5. An application to close a TNB account is usually made when the homeowner or tenant no longer uses the house/premises, relocates, or sells the property. You will receive a refund of the TNB meter deposit that was previously deposited into the TNB account.

6. An application to change the TNB meter name is usually made when someone rents or purchases a new house/premises where the meter is still active but registered under a previous owner or tenant. The meter must be transferred to the new name. The meter itself does not need to be changed and can continue to be used as usual; however, in the system, the account name will be updated with no outstanding arrears. Any existing arrears will remain under the previous account holder. For payment, you are required to pay a TNB meter deposit, as the previous deposit will be refunded to the former account holder.

7. A Group Supply application is a bulk application. If there is more than one housing unit, a group supply application is required, such as rental houses with multiple units and housing estates / residential areas. The pricing is the same as a new application, but it will be broken down by unit. This helps TNB with planning work such as cable sizing, cable routing, and pole positioning.

8. The Net Energy Metering (NEM) and P2P meter applications mentioned above are channels for generating income by selling excess energy to TNB, so you do not need to install expensive storage batteries. Once the meter installation work is completed, an application is made to convert the meter to a solar meter that can export and import electricity and sell the generated energy to TNB.
